Identifying Unknown Substance Summative

1a.Matches: The head of the match uses antimony trisulfide for fuel, potassium chlorate helps the fuel burn, the ammonium phosphorate prevent the matches from smoking too much and the paraffin wax helps the flame to travel down the wooden stick. On the striking surface, there's powdered glass for friction and red phosphorus to ignite the flame. Striking the match against the powdered glass on the matchbox creates friction heat from the friction converts the red phosphorous into white phosphorous. White phosphorous is volatile and reacts with oxygen in the air causing it to ignite.

1b.Acid/ base
If you put a base on the vinegar, it will fizz. Acids react with some metals, such as zinc, and release hydrogen gas. Bases are found in many cleaning agents, including soap

1c.Color Change
When I mix the Indicator and Baking Soda, the color turns from white to light blue and that's how you know when chemical change happen.

2.Describe the chemical makeup of baking powder.
Baking soda and cream of tartar

3.Describe the process you used to determine the unknown substance.

The process I use to find the unknown substance is we use the Indicator with the unknown substance and the color turned into light blue just like baking soda.

4.Describe the process you used to determine which two substances make up baking powder.
The process I used to find the 2 substances that make up baking powder is I know that every substance is not fizzing using water but the unknown substance fizz so we try mixing every substance so we find out that the baking powder is made from baking soda and cream tartar.
